Local Info

Where to listen, where to talk, and where to meet other hams around Middletown, Monroe, Franklin, Carlisle, Trenton, Germantown, Hamilton, Springboro.

Details change. Entries show when I last confirmed them, and anything marked [TODO] is still unverified. Check with the club or net before you rely on a frequency or time.

Repeaters

A repeater is a radio station, usually on a tall building or tower, that receives your signal and rebroadcasts it, so a small handheld radio can reach across town. To use one you tune to its output frequency (what you hear), transmit on a slightly different frequency set by its offset, and sometimes send a quiet PL tone (a sub-audible signal that opens the repeater). Frequencies are in megahertz (MHz).

Nets

A net is a scheduled on-air meetup: a host called net control runs the session while hams check in by announcing their callsign. Some nets are social, some teach procedures, and some practice emergency communications. Newcomers are usually welcome to just listen the first time.

Clubs & meeting places

Clubs are the fastest way to learn the hobby: you meet people who will happily answer questions, help with your first antenna, and sometimes run license classes and exam sessions. Most meet in public places like libraries, community centers, or restaurants.

See something wrong, or know a group I missed?

Ham information goes stale quickly. If you run a net, repeater, or club in the area, I'd love to hear about it.
