Hi, I'm KE8OIR.

I'm a licensed ham radio operator in Middletown, Ohio. This is my corner of the internet for local radio happenings: what's on the calendar, where the nets and meetups are, and how to get started if you're curious.

What is ham radio?

Ham radio (also called amateur radio) is a hobby and public service where licensed people use radio to talk with each other, near and far, without needing the internet or a cell tower. Hams talk across town through repeaters (radio relay stations on tall towers), reach other countries on shortwave, bounce signals off the moon, and keep communications running when storms knock out everything else.

Anyone can get a license: you study, pass a multiple-choice exam, and you're on the air. It's a hobby for tinkerers, talkers, and people who like to help.
